Photoshop's help entries are often not very helpful to me and often I'll see a technique that's not covered in the Help files. A while back I stumbled onto Photoshop's Custom How To feature which lets you create custom help files which will show up at the bottom of the Photoshop Help menu. This works in CS2 and CS3 for sure but may also work in earlier versions.

In Photoshop click Help > How to create How Tos > Create your own How To tips

Read the instructions - it's pretty easy to set up. I used MS Word as my html editor but there are many free editors out there.

The best thing about this is that I can archive the help files I've created and copy them when I upgrade to a new version of PS.

Da,

Being of a certain age! I prefer to have printed notes to refer to while working on an image. Anything that needs me to switch to another screen is doomed.

And boy, do I have a lot of paper notes - in a cardboard box above my wardrobe!

I like printed notes better myself, but when I needed them they either had been thrown out or were at the wrong location.

Having tons of notes all over the place was what prompted me to get it all in one place. I have three Pshop PCs and this lets me have my notes on all of them.
