went to cc today to kill time and saw they have uv and cpl filters for 4$ and 7$..

i picked up both for for 12$…both made by sunpak. i kniw not the best brand..you can check it on their website. limited sizes...i got 58mm for my 18-55 IS.

just a heads up..if this is in the wrong forum..mod olease move. im doing this from the check out line on my cellphone.

Wow... Id return those as fast as you bought them... check out hvstar.com and get yourself a B+W brand of each...

Cheap filters give poor quality images. Low contrast, soft and prone to flare.

Exactly. You have essentially paid money to make your pictures look worse.

At B&H, the B+W MRC UV in 58 mm is about $35 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/11990-REG/B_W_66070222_58mm_UV_Haze_010.html).

I have the Sunpak CPL filter for my Sony F717 (hey had to start somewhere) and it worked okay but not great. Didn't seem to cause any flare problem but it didn't do much other than darken the picture, very little change in contrast.
