Can this adapter work in Rebel cameras?

Here is an example.

I want to stick with SD so i don't have to lug around another adapter when I already got a SD adapter in my laptop.

What about SDHC memory? Is that dependent upon the adapter or the camera

Yes it'll work with the Digital Rebels. Note however that it only takes up to 2 GB SD cards, and doesn't support SDHC at all. SDHC needs to be supported by the adapter in a reader (like this is) or by the camera, if the camera uses SD-type cards directly.

I wouldn't say you have to settle. There are other adapters out there that do support SDHC. I bought a Jobo recently off eBay that works just fine with SDHC.

But it does seem alot slower than a comparable CF card is and may not be worth your effort. I've done no scientific tests though as I'm in no rush when I choose to use it, just an observation.

I'd rather not go the ebay route...if its something i can buy from a local electronics store, i'm all for it. if you know of a chain store that might carry stuff like this, please let me know. I've already checked Circuit City, Fry's, Best Buy.
