So far im loving the camera....i wanted something small and that could fit in my pocket. I usually use my 5d &24-70 combo every where i go, but there are times that it is just too big and to pricey to be taking into certain places...im glad i bought the G9. Quality is good, and it could easily be replaced if I lose it or it gets stolen..I hope not though...:)

oh does anyone know if its possible to shoot raw and wide at the same time? I really like shooting wide, but it seems that all i can shoot it with is jpeg

You can't because a raw file contains the entire image; if you want it wide just crop it. The camera is just cropping it for you when you choose that option.

thanks for the welcoming....i used my G9 today to take pics of Obama. He came to speak at my university today. The camera handled well...I was pretty far, so It was fairly difficult to get a sharp photo of him, but im still pleased with the results.

Next time Obama comes around, play with the ISO if necessary in order to get a faster shutter speed and obtain a sharp photo.

yea i did have a fast shutter speed...its just i was so far that i had to crop to get a closer shot of him. The results are still passable, but im just so used to my 5d and L lens combos.

this is the one that came out the best after cropping.

So many people seem to be "shooting" Obama... as well as other presidential candidate for that matter  ... look at all those phone cameras in the front... sheesh...

That's a sign of the times. Each time someone's on stage, you see hands up with illuminated screens of digicams. If they were optical viewfinders, you wouldn't be seeing the hands.

Ahhh....not true. In the olden days, you would see photographers, especially those in the press, working in a crowd, set up their cameras with best-guess estimates and loft their cameras up on high, pour off a few shots and then bring the camera back down and give the camera another f stop adjustment, just in case, and repeat the process all over again. If they were any good at it, and they most certainly were, they would have a photo to please their employer.

I think what you're reallly noticing is everyone now has a camera. Digi's are extremely popular and you practically can't buy a cell phone now without a camera, and everyone has one of those.

I hear ya, but lately have not seen any 1-series or regular DSLRs hoisted up high. Just the annoying small illuminated camera phones and digicams. Maybe the DSLR people are in the back with a 300mm or so.
