View Full Version : A720IS 1sec limit in AV mode?

This is probably a dumb question but what the heck ;-)

Ive recently got myself the A720IS to go with my 5D, however I have just noticed that when in Aperture Priority mode (AV) the camera wont select anything below 1 second, if I set say f/8.0 it would rather severely underexpose the shot than go below 1 second.

Is this normal?

Manual mode works fine, as does TV, but AV just wont select a shutter speed below 1 second.

Thx :-)

now that you mention it, my 720 is the same

I don't have CHDK installed, yet

but then I use it as an auto p&s most of the time

Yup, normal. Its just a dumbed-down way of doing things. Just switch to manual. Not quite sure why it does it - I would imagine its so people don't accidentally take 15s images and use up all their battery and not know why its taking so long. At least a 1s image only takes a second rather than 15.

Great, thanks to you both, you have put my mind at rest!

I thought it might have been a fault on my A720.

Regarding the protective cover on the LCD screen, I'm quite certain my A720 was new when I got it, but there was no protective cover on it when I got home. Possibly the salesperson removed it when she unpacked the camera at the time of sale.

Mine was new & never came with any protective film on the LCD, this was also the case with my 5D, I dont think Canon bother anymore.

First thing I did was check the make sure the camera was working & then put on a protective film, my brother gets them for me from work, no idea of the make but they are terrifically clear & bubble free, its like nothing is on there, I use them on my 5D & now the A720IS.
