If your lens communicates focal length to the camera, then it will be in your EXIF data. Here is the EXIF data from another POTN member's image he posted earlier today:

Exposure Time: 1/320 sec
F-Number: f/2.0
Exposure Program: Manual
ISO Speed Rating: 1600
Lens Aperture: f/2.0
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Metering Mode: Pattern
Flash: No Flash, Compulsory
Focal Length: 85.00 mm
Color Space Information: sRGB

EIXF can be read with numerous stand alone programs, with Mac OS 10.4 and higher, with PhotoShop, etc...

You mean DPP? I dunno. I've never used it, but I'm sure something that is on the CD should be able to read the EXIF info.

I think Image Browser and DPP show basic EXIF info but maybe not focal length. On the Mac, the free app EXIF Viewer is GREAT and I use it all the time to give very complete EXIF info.

What OS are you using on your computer?

Hair,

If you're trying to work with your exposure settings, why are you concerned with focal length? Seems odd, as fl is rarely even a minor factor in determining exposure, unless you have a lens that changes aperture with focal length, but even then, it's the aperture that is impacting your exposure, not the focal length. If you shoot Av mode or manual, and set your aperture for the widest setting, even with a variable aperture lens, the aperture will be the largest it can be for whatever focal length you choose.

Suggest you invest in "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson:

You might want to reconsider, as I think Opanda will display more EXIF data than will at least DPP. I don't have PSP so I can't comment on this. Plus, Opanda offers browser-based EXIF reading, which is convenient, especially when looking at images online.

Hair, how are you saving the files using DPP? I think you could be losing the embedded EXIF data in your images based on how you are saving them for display on the web. You won't lose the data with DPP if you export and save. You can also see the data in DPP by selecting a picture and then selecting FILE -> INFO.

Perhaps you are using Paintshop pro to save the JPGs for flickr OR there is a flickr option to hide the exif.... If you make sure you save the file with EXIF you won't have to cut and paste it so we can see it and help you.
