I am looking to upgrade my current photo printer and have been reading the past posts on this forum board and wanted to know if there is any word on the street about the next generation or release of higher end photo printers?
I am currently leaning towards the Epson 2200 or stepping down in size to the Epson R800. Obviously...If I go with the smaller paper capacity I will have to farm out the larger print jobs.
I am looking for lab quality printed at home (aren't we all  )
I have seen canon's latest releases and I am looking to specifically compare them with the two Epson models mentioned above.
I have been using Epson models for years and other than the print head clogging issues have had little problems (unlike some of the posts I have read)
Thanks for your time!

Lab quality in a home printer... and cheap to operate.
That's the Holy Grail for photographers like us.

I have used a 2200 (2100 here in the UK) for about 2 years and the results are excellent. Not quite good lab quality and definately not cheap to run but have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever other than the cartridge that runs out is always the one you dont have a replacement for.

Great point Bob!!! I almost forgot about the avaerage price per print charges that have always cost me more than the print device itself.
Thanks to you both for the replies.
As I mentioned, I am leaning towards the 2200 however I was hoping that the two year old printer would be updated soon and not soon after I buy one... as usual.
Thanks Again,
Michael

I think I found what I was looking for with regards to what's on the horizon for Epson.
In case anyone did not see this this check out Michael Reichmann preview & a Translation of the Japanese brochure for the Epson PX G5000

I see too many people asking for advice on a printer to purchase, and they want one with a price of $100 or $200 or something. Depending on how much inkjet ink you use, you can easily go through cartridges that cost that much very quickly. I use $100-150 worth of inkjet cartridges every three months.

well i just saw the PX-G5000 in the store yesterday and I looked at about 20 sample A3+ photos. WOW, I'm seriously thinking about buying this printer. Just wonder how much the ink is going to cost :-(

It didn't give the maximum print width. Looks like it may be the same level as the upcoming R1800 or a step below it if the print width isn't 13 inches. Maybe a different name for a different country.

They tip that it won’t be available in the US until April (possibly called something else).
think i will wait

Isn't this the same printer as the R1800? Just the Japanese name versus the U.S. name? The specs for the two printers seem identical.
