Hello all,

great forum.

I recently acquired a a great monopod, with a Manfrotto 222 Head.

I can't for the life of me figure out how it works. I mean, I know how the quick release works, but I can't tell what the joystick action is for.

Is there a primer somewhere describing its functions?

(Here's a pic of the head: http://www.nikonians.org/html/resources/non-nikon_articles/manfrotto-222-grip-ball-head.html)

Is the lever just there to adjust the tension? (In this case it doesn't seem to work on mine...)

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. Yes, I'm a newb. :o

Press the "trigger" to loosen the ballhead. Release to lock it.

Well, maybe I'm missing something, but pressing the "trigger" doesn't really change the tension on the ballhead, nor does releasing it.

My 40D with a 100 macro (kinda heavy) stays put on it, but I can't imagine that this head was built to support only this much weight...

Well, the "Wheel" that's near the top is a tension adjustment. Just squeeze the grip part to unlock the ball and move the whole assembly until it's aiming like you want. The lever on the quick release isn't the "trigger" René was speaking of.
