Hello All:
1st post here as I do not yet have a G9 - but will likely be picking one up for my wife next week. We're looking forward to see all this camera can do. I've held one in my hands and am pleasantly surprised by the build quality.
My question is in regards to the 3" LCD screen. Does it need a protector??
My Mklln 2.5" screen is scratch free after a year of use - so I'm wondering if the screen on the G9 is as durable or is it made of softer glass/plastic.
Also, if you think one is needed, some recommedations on best type would be appreciated - I've never even thought about looking at protectors before.
Thanks in advance.

I got one, but not all the certain it was necessary. If you take care of the camera, I suspect the glass will do just fine.

It's always the accident that causes an unsightly gash that you cannot remove. I like the Giottos coated Schott glass protectors. The view through it is very nice.

IMO it doesn't need one. The stock Canon LCD cover is quite scratch resistant. It also is replaceable. I believe the Canon part number is CK9-1293 and runs around $36 + shipping for the part. Though I haven't replaced one, its apparently pretty easy to pop the old one out & do yourself.

The photographer's choice is use the uncovered LCD until it scratches and then it builds up enough until they are finally moved to replace it. Or get a scratch resistant protector beforehand and be free of that.

I covered mine with a steel plate. It's bombproof!

What length sheetrock screws would recommend to secure it? 1"? 1-1/2"?
