Was looking into buying a point and shoot for mostly my wife and I would use it too. We would probably use it for little stuff when I dont want to lug my old 35mm Nikon around. A would like to know what you all feel about the A70. I read that some have had an error problems that turn the camera into a nice paperweight   Others dont seem to have any problems at all. Thanks in advance!!! By the way...I could get it new for a real good price.

Ive had an A70 for just over a year now... and I love it. The first one I picked up had a problem in that when zooming, there was distortion in the optical viewfinder. The shop replaced it on the spot, and the one I've got now has performed flawlessly :) If the price is worth it, I'd say go for it.... but of course I'm biased ;)

invest a bite more and get the A-95....i have an A-80 and the extra dollars for the swivel lcd and the extra pixel are worth every pennies and more. The silvel lcd is the main attraction....when you have this feature you don't know what you would do without it......practical and alloys you to flip the lcd onto the back off the camera so secure and protect it . I paid in early july 450 cnd. form mine in the us you can get an A-90 for 350. good luck and especially have fun going digital....you'll think why did we wait so long... regards from canada

Depends on what you expect from it. As a second to your Nikon, you might prefer the (slightly) smaller size and less complexity of the fixed LCD vs. the swing-out one. It's pocketable and quite frugal with batteries, even on alkalines. With high capacity rechargables it should run forever. It's going to be less expensive than the later models. All of which sound as if they'd suit your purposes; less might well be more. (Can you tell I use one? :) ) Hedge against the risk of early failure with an extended warranty.

Pros (whole A-series): long run time
compactness
Flexibility - P&S or lots of control
Cons: Even the least compression sometimes gives visible artifacts

I love the A80... if the A70 doesn't have the same pull out LCD then I'd spring for the A80 at least.. it makes a big difference.

I love my A70. I mounted a magnified viewer hood on the LCD. You couldn't do this very well with the movable LCD. The A70 has the further advantage of slightly greater wide angle because of the smaller CCD. If you can get one cheap, it is a bargain.
