Shakespeare.
While out and about this afternoon I stopped by a local florist and bought a single red rose to work with. Here is a sample of the images made.
C&C would be appreciated.
I played around with some different backgrounds and decided I like the sky blue...

and the black

I also tried to work in closer to 1:1. I didn't quite get there but I got close.

Thanks. I was using a Rebel XT with a Sigma 70mm f/2.8 Macro lens and Canon 430 EX Flash with Sto-Fen Diffuser mounted in the hot shoe. The whole rig was tripod-mounted.
While I ried several different aperture values, all four images posted were made at f/22 and ISO 400. EC varied between 0 and -2/3.
Hope that helps.
P.S. I just noticed a little dust spot at the top of #1 that I will have to clone out. Shoot f/22 against sky blue and they WILL show up!

Very nice images! I like number three as I'm not too big on the centered flower shots...unless they are really pretty colors. I like the composition.

Thanks for the feedback/comments. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I should have split these images up and put #1 and #2 in the Nature forum and #3 and #4 here in the Macro forum. So I did now post the first two over in Nature this morning.
I've confronted the issue of centering several times in the past. In maybe 95% of the cases, I definitely try to move the subject off-center either when shooting or by cropping. But sometimes, I just feel the subject looks better centered and that was the case with #1 and #2. They just looked lopsided when off-center. But again, that's to my eye!

That's what it's all about. If you don't have a way to take pictures that you like or that please your eye, what would you take pictures of to satisfy your urge for photography? Keep taking pictures and have a great time every time you close the shutter.

Excellent images Ed. I prefer it on the black background as it make a good contrast. :)
