Just curious as to what would be a good lens to add to my setup. I have had Canon SLRS for about 15 years now so I have two old Canon autofocus lenses that I still use with my D60. I definitely am a novice but I enjoy photography and I'm always trying to take better photographs, reading books about techniques etc. I mostly take pictures of my family as well as landscapes. Right now I have an old Canon 70-210 lens (i think the widest aperature is 4.0). The autofocus on this lens is really slow and there is no image stabilization but it still works. I also have a Canon 28-80 (4.5-5.6) that came with my Elan. The best lens I have is a Canon L series 17-40 that I just got last year.

I am debating about purchasing a new zoom (70-210) versus getting a good quality fixed focal length lens (100mm?). Thoughts? Recommendations?

Hi Guajis

If you can afford it why not buy the 70-200 f4L, that lens is very sharp and would make a great compliment to your 17-40 f4L.

The zoom is probably more practical and versatile for you at this point, if and when you specialize your photography shooting then start looking at primes.
