I am trying to hook up my new 1D MKII (my 10d got ripped off with my 17-40mm on it) to the firewire connection to set my personal functions.
I am running Win XP and have the drivers installed from the Canon CD, but am getting no connection to my camera.....when I check the device manager it tells me that there is a CODE 10 and the device cannot connect.
Can anyone tell me what that is? How I can remedy the situation?
thanks!

The Code 10 error is normally associated with the card drivers in the operating system, not the camera. Is this an add-on card or on the motherboard? I assume this error is with or without the camera?
To be honest I have never seen this error other than on one laptop with XP and PC's with SIS chipsets that needed a BIOS update.

What is the transfer (or communication) mode set to on the camera.
I had a hell of a time connecting to XP until I changed mine (on the DReb).
I don't remember what it is set to, the camera is at home, but I would try both settings to see if it helps.
Other than that.... not sure..

It is an add-on pci card for the firewire connection....but it seems to be working fine (at least that is what the Device Manager claims)
What do you mean by "changing connection mode"??
Do I have to change some settings within the camera?
This is quite frustrating.....I think that when I up grade my puter, I will go MAC......and have no more connection grief (I have had lots in the past already....this latest one is just a minor thing)
thanks for your advice.

Do you have any other FireWire devices besides your 1D Mark II, and do they work correctly with the FireWire connection on your PC? If you get the same "Code 10" with other devices, the problem is probably in the hardware or software (drivers) on the computer and not in the camera. You can also try connecting the camera to a different computer and see if it works there.

Not sure about the 1D, but the 300D has an option in the menu called "Communication". The options are "Normal" and "PTP". (I am speculating that there is something the same on yours)
From my documentation on the DReb....
"PTP enables driverless connection
with Windows XP and Macintosh OS X"
and...
"and PTP means Windows XP and Mac OS X users won’t need to install any dedicated driver software to connect the camera to a computer."
