Hello everyone. I just found this forum and it looks to be very informative. I used to own an s50 and now have upgraded to an s70. I love the camera and think Canon made some great changes with it over the s50. This is a question for anyone with an s50, 60, or 70...

When in video mode, is there a way to shoot a video longer than three minutes since I have enough space on my card?

If not is there a way to shoot the video directly to my computer for a longer time? And if not...

Is there a way to shoot video longer than three minutes in any way?

Thank you very much!

To answer all your questions... I don't think so.

Tough its fast DIGIC processor, the camera is still incapable to record the movie and write it to the card in the same time like my Sony does.So it have to retain it into its tiny RAM memory (that's approx. 3min of shoting) and only after that starts writing to the CF card.

But hey, what's the main purpose of these cameras? (Don't answer this!)

I don't think the Canon software will let you record any movie directly to computer, tough we all know that there is a live compressed video signal from the camera to computer(See the Remote Capture program's preview window)

In the various:"can-I-use-my-400-USD-camera-as-a-webcam"-discussions some time ago, there was an interesting theory:
It was claimed that if the TV-port on the camera (AV) is connected to the TV-in port on the computer (If you have that!) - it should be possible with some of those TV-capture programs to record longer videos.
Of course the camera is not made for this, and it was claimed that it could "burn up the processor" (or somethink like that!)

I have not tried this! - nor will I.
