View Full Version : Faulty LCD
Bascule

My 5 year old G3 has just developed a fault. When turned on (whether viewing or taking pictures), the display initially shows a picture then, over a few seconds, it fades to white. When you flip the display round (i.e. to self portrait mode) the picture returns briefly and then fades to white again. The camera still takes pictures but you have to use the view finder instead of the display.
Has anyone seen this fault before? Any ideas if it's fixable?
Any help gratefully received.......

Contact Canon... might be cheaper to just buy another one off ebay though..

There are many reports of faulty swivel LCD screens where the fault was traced to the cables and/or connectors running from the LCD to the boards in the camera body.
Many of them were easily fixable and there are threads in this forum reporting how to do that. Search for them. If I found something, I will post the links.

That happened to my G5 . . . and eventually it just stopped working. The LCD screen would just be white . . . I sold it. Sad day!

Check this thread G3 LCD Screen Blank (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=141639) and the link on it. Hope it will help you with some ideas.

I just read a thread and took the back off of the lcd screen. there was a yellow and blue plug that was connected to the lcd. both were slightly unplugged. using a toothpick (wooden) and what-do-ya-know? the thing came on. been out of commision for about 3 months now and it took me this long to get the courage to take off 4 screws. the G3 is back in action.

I had this (or a pretty similar) problem with my G3. As Rafael said, it's not uncommon.
Here's the thread link -- http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=47102 -- Further on down in the thread Pamela107, and DizzyDevil posted how they were able to fix it themselves. Same fix as allenhaus so give it a try.
