Not a pro, relatively new, etc... be kind. I'm taking a class called "Photography and Computers".
The assignment is to emulate a photographer. Happenstance showed me this composition of Kate Moss nude and I thought it was particularly good. (Nudity Warning)

Now, I'm a student and my friend's are necessarily of the posing nude persuasion, so I had to come up with a substitute. My bass, for it too has a head, neck, body, etc...
But my question is more about getting the vibe down. Close's is dirty, and the fade to black is great. I don't have a studio, nor fancy equipment, so I don't expect to get real close, but I'm wondering if I can get closer than I am now with a bit of work in Photoshop.
I haven't found a good way to make the bass pop out of a black background like Moss does. I can replace the background with black, but it looks quite crappy if I just do that. Maybe there's a better technique?
Anything else you can think of might help too.
I've uploaded one of the original shots, a color/"raw" form of the composition, and my current processed composition.
Thanks,
Alex
