logo critique

So I finally decided i needed to make a logo as I was creating a price list for my first customer (yay!) anyway my initials are Z.P so I incorporated that into the logo..

i dig it. I get with the explanation you gave. i just wonder if people will think it's 'Z Photography" instead of ZP.

I was wondering that myself - Z photography isn't all that bad anyway ;) I don't really have a "name" yet but it will be something along the lines of Zvon photography. Z photography kinda works too though :D

personally i'd drop the drop shadow it's a bit 2005 but apart from my personal taste it looks very nice :) is it vector ?

lol I didn't realize I'm already dating myself with the drop shadow haha - It currently isn't vector but I will be making it again in illustrator :)

I'm a graphic designer w/25 years experience and IMO the logo isn't bad. I have a few points though.

The shadow is good, gives it more dimension but I think I would soften it a bit. By the way a shadow does not date it at all. Shadows are strong in advertising today, has been and will be. A lot of advertising with shadows stand out against advertising with plain 2 dimenional type. Of course, used in the right way. Since your logo is just black, it works.

Also I would try and see how it would look if you put a period after the P so it would read Z. P.hotography. The p is large enough that I don't think the period would break up the word and it would reinforce your initials.

This is just an afterthought but for some reason when I read it I keep getting zippy photography in my head. Don't know if that's a good thing or not and I'm sure it's just me but I thought I would voice it.

I tried what you suggested and I kinda like it, what you think?

Something about the spacing bothers me. The periods need to be the same distance from the Z and P, the period after the Z is too far off in my opinion. I also wonder if you made the periods smaller if that would help. Of course this is just my opinion. Did you try softening up the shadow? It looks the same to me.

I noticed the spacing issue as well. I softened the shadow a little bit and you're right it looks nicer!

I shrunk the periods as well.

Indeed I do too, the more i compare the original with this latest rev, I prefer the latest. Thanks dugcross for your insight and help! it's much appreciated

I think the last edit on the logo works nicely.

Also, if you are having clients, you need to make sure that you don't run into problems by using a made up name when you don't have a legal business.

I guess I don't know how it works in Canada but....
