I'm new to the forum, so please excuse me if this question has been asked before.
I've had my G9 for a couple of weeks now and like it. Presently I'm using a 2GB card. What is the largest size I can use? My printer is not set up to use a SDHC card, just the regular SD.
Thanks in advance for any help other members can give me.

I don't know what the largest card you can use is but I'm using an 8GB SDHC card. I need to get a couple more as RAW files certainly eat up the memory.

I think I've seen SD cards up to 4GB. If you are only looking at SD cards, that should be your max

Yes, the question has been asked before. . . I asked it when I was new to the forum! Hah!
Anyhow, I did some research and finally found out that the G9 will take up to a 32 gig SDHC card. Now because the SD is not available in as large a size as the SDHC, you should be safe with the biggest SD you can put in it.
I am using an 8 gig SDHC in mine. I have also used a Transcend 4 gig SD 150x card. It works fine.
I have heard of some of the cheaper brands not being recognized in some cameras - not specifically the G9, but I suggest getting a good brand name anyways.

Remember too, the speed of the SD card might be important if you take continuous shots or movie. I did use a cheaper SD 2Gb but the speed was lousy. I now use minimum 133x and it blisters.

This might help:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sd_card#Compatibility_issues_with_2_GB_and_larger_ cards
Looks like you'd be better off sticking with 2GB SD cards or going SDHC for 4GB and above. The 8GB SDHC cards are very good value, eg the Transcend GB class 6 or Sandisk UltraII.
One thing to keep in mind is the read speed of the card and card reader. When you load images into your computer, a fast card with a fast reader will make that time very much shorter than a slow one can.
Instead of offloading images direct to your printer - straight from the card - why not simply load them into your PC first? You can still print without editing but will be able to use SDHC cards.

Yes,,, the difference between the class 6 and class 2 is night and day,,,, Although if you only shoot Jpegs you might not notice.. But with Raw you can really tell...

SDHC stands for SD High Capacity. Some devices can't handle SDHC so if you want to use your printer which is not capable, I would stick with up to 4gb. However, your G9 can handle 16gb if not 32 SDHC cards.
You also might want to check your printers firmware to see if it can be updated to handle SDHC cards.

You can certainly update your computers drivers to accept SDHC and your printer will work fine with the PC... If you print directly from the card; which I doubt anyone here does,, yes, you may have an issue..

Lol. you should make it a habit to format the card after you offload all the images from your SD card. But you don't have to.

While we are on the subject of SD cards. What is the difference between Sandisk 4GB Extreme III SDHC card ($49.95) vs. Sandisk 4GB SDHC card ($29.95)? Why the price difference in the same brand with the same capacity cards?
Is one really better than the other?

Sandisk Extreme III is faster than a regular Sandisk.

That's a false statement. Many of the older canon sd series could not take an SDHC card, however, if you update it's firmware (software), you can start using SDHC cards.

I think he means that you can't add software into one's PC to make an SD card reader into an SDHC card reader. WinXP will read all of them - if the reader can do so. Maybe you can update the firmware of the reader but I have not seen any offered anywhere for one. Likely because they are so cheap - simply buy the right one.
Some Sandisk cards come with an SDHC reader - a micromate.

True reading it again, that's what it sounds like. I interpreted it as it's only a hardware solution.

They rate the SDHC cards in Class 2, Class 4, or Class 6:
Class 2: minimum sustained DTS of 2MB/sec
Class 4: minimum sustained DTS of 4MB/sec
Class 6: minimum sustained DTS of 6MB/secI actually don't know how this relates to the ***x ratings of the earlier cards. It is likely that the Class 6 is comparable, if not faster than the 150x
