Did a search but couldn't find any info about it.

Has anybody tried the Sigma 18-50mm EX f/2.8, if so, what's your opinion.

I'm thinking it might be an alternative to canon 17-40 L, with savings of about $200.

I got it a few days ago, and based on the limited number of shots I have taken with it, I think it's pretty good!

I bought one and returned it. The purple fringing was more than I could handle. It was sharp though.

Had mine for a few weeks now, and am still pleased. Haven't noticed a problem with the purple fringing. That's the main problem I had with the 300d kit lens.
