Hello All,
I am trying to get a very good book on those two types of photography...
Can you recommend? It would help if those books were written with DSLR in mind....and with crops....even better:-)

Book on design? Why people call it a book on design? Can you tell me in few words what will I find there in terms of landscape photography? Thanks a lot!

You've asked for "the best" and "very good books" about portrait and landscape. That's like asking about the best book about violin and piano play. Unfortunately there is no such book which magically turns you into a master. In addition tastes vary, there are varying levels of expertise, hence no single book will suit everyone.

Apparently you haven't made the connection between image composition and landscape photography yet. In this case you should have asked for simple introductory literature about photography and proceed from there. Obviously "chauncey" got confused by your demand for the best of the best ...

Alex, before spending your money on more books, have you followed the links in the stickies at the top of this forum - http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=52418 ? There is at least one link to landscape stuff and no doubt several on portraiture.
