Love these pics.... Love the breed:)
We have a lady in our town who sled races a team and quite often takes one or two for a walk in the town centre, you got to laugh as the the majority in the crowd, who know zilch about dogs, cross the road, turn around, go into a shop.... anything to avoid these 'Wolves on a leash'

Odds are, if you did conformance on the east coast, we shared some grooming space; tons of Huskys around!

Well, I'm happy you did... This great breed should not go unnoticed.. To know them, is to love them... Sibes too...lol - :D
You can tell how happy they are with you.. The look on that face with your wife holding he/she says it all....

Very cute dogs everyone! I do have a question though. I don't mean for this to sound rude, it's an honest question. What's the difference between a Husky and an Alaskan Malamute? They look almost identical as far as I can tell. Were they bred / raised for different purposes?
S.Horton
17th of October 2008 (Fri), 22:54
Size, weight, bone structure.
I think Malamutes were bred for hauling heavy loads over distance, and Huskies for speed.
...but don't quote me....

Greta thread. Love the pics. We have 2 Mals. A 103 pound red/white male and a 70 pound black/white female. We do a lot of weight pulls and holiday parades.
My new gear comes next week. I think the dogs will be the first shots. I'll post pics then.
Meanwhile, here's an older one of Meeka. Not real good, I know. Blaze is in the background. http://www.amcw.org/scamp/photos/meeka-snow.jpg
Sam - you are correct. Mals carry heavy loads, Sibes carry lighter loads over longer distances.
Zipline - this link is a comparison of the breeds on our club's website (I am the webmaster). http://www.amcw.org/comparison.html. From there, click Home and you can find more info on the breed, and some (older) pictures on the photos page. I need to get those updated. With the new gear coming next week, I now have an excuse.

On the contrary, Yola, a pedigree Malamute will always have brown eyes. If you see a Mal with blue eyes it most likely has a little Husky blood in it somewhere along the line:)

Our guy Roscoe, about a year right now. Onw with his favorite basket ball and another of him doing his "look in the bathroom window" trick. Basically he is a wood chipper with a tail...he will eat anything it seems. He is making good progress on our lawn furniture.

I looked at your flikr - Is that puppy a red?
She was when I brought her home at ten weeks, but her coat has darkened up a lot over the last month. She only has a few red highlights remaining and even those are fading fast as her adult coat grows in.
Oh well, She's still a beautiful pup. :)
