Had my first serious attempt at photographing a car show at the Parklands showground a couple of weekends ago. The show featured a drift comp, burnout comp and show & shine.
All photos were taken from public viewing areas. Gear used: 300D, Sigma APO DG 75-300, 18-55 kit lens, Hoya star eight filter and 420EZ flash.
More photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/d_kent/ in Parklands car show set.
C&C most welcome.

Its a nice shot (and good to see that the lens that I'm getting later this week is capable!) but seems to lack a little sharpness, did you sharpen after resizing?

The composition is good (smoke and angled wheels), just lacking sharpness.
Good effort.

I'll echo the general comments. It's a well framed shot showing some good action but it needs to be sharper. Looking at your image EXIF information you were at 300mm and f/6.3 which is not far from wide open. That Sigma really needs to be stopped down to f/11 or so to give of its best at 300mm.

As the others have said a bit sharper would improve things a lot.
I'll dig up a couple of examples and post them later to give you an idea :)

These were taken on a very grey day at Silverstone a couple of years ago. There was no wind at all so the tyre smoke took ages to clear and i lost loads of shots because of it.
I was signed on for this one, not that it makes a lot of difference at our "lovely" GP circuit ;)
I was using a 20D with assorted lenses (Sigma 120-300, 70-200 and a Canon 100-40L)
From behind...ooerr madam !

Plenty of wheelspin & opposite lock but not much smoke for some reason.

Now we're getting there..

That's more like it !

EXIF should be intact on all of those if you want to check settings etc :)
I'll be having another go at Drifting this year. A friend of mine is the Chief Scrutineer for the European Drift Championship so if nothing else it's a good excuse to meet up & have a chat.

Thanks Dirtbiker. Apart from resizing i haven't done any PP work on that shot.
Good luck with the new glass!!

Thanks for the tips Cadwell. Yeah I did get some other shots which look sharper (see url to flickr page in original post) but the displayed pic was my favourite in composition and framing.
