Hello,

I was shooting an assignment for the first time utilizing the, “interface Cable IFC _ 400CU” that was shipped with my 20d. Problem was, it was WAY to short, and I am now looking for a longer cord.

The markings on the cable itself looks like simple USB A to B, but when I look at the standard USB A to B, it looks different on the camera connection end.

Does anyone know if a longer USB cord is made or its name?

Thanks for your time,

Sanford

The 20D uses a "4-pin mini-B" connector at the camera end. Unfortunately, due to power requirements, the USB cable standard is for 6 ft/ 2 metres between device and hub. If you want to go longer, you'd need to put line-boosters in between extension cables for reliability. Look for "active USB cables" or consider just using cables and hubs every 6 ft.

I've used a 10ft USB extension cable on both my G2 and Digital Rebel with no problems.

20D is USB 2.0. That can be fussier. In any case, do you want to chance your valuable data?

Thanks Jon, is there a difference between a "mini -B" and a "B?"

Functionally, no. As you've seen, the mini-B is substantially smaller. Be aware, though. There are both 4- and 5-pin mini-B cables.
