I haven't used the 44, but I use a 54 on camera (30D) and love it. The TTL mode works well enough, but I often throw the flash into A mode with some compensation and leave it there.

OK, thank for you comment, my 44-2 are on the way and I would like to use it on A mode too, a photographer tell me that this flash make a nice job in A mode, one question, did you have a adapter for TTL for canon camera? or just whit 301 adapter that come in with the flash are enough for A mode.

the advantage of using the correct dedicated module is not merely availability of ETTL...even without ETTL, the right dedicated module tells the body to
a. go to X-sync speed,
b. lets the body know that the flash is Ready,
c. gets a flash confirmation light,
d. lets the flash automatically zoom to the coverage that corresponds to the lens FL,
e. and in Auto mode tells the flash what f/stop is set on the lens
There might be a few more things that I have forgotten!
