I when to serveral store and had read the user manual os S410 and SD110 but non of them indicating they have the date imprint option where it'll put the date stamp of the photo permenantly when saving the picture so when you take it out to have it develop it'll be on the pictures. The only way for these 2 Canon to imprint date on photo is by using canon own printer using direct print.

Is this the only way? Any suggestions?

I know you can permanently date stamp images on the PowerShot A75, A85, and A95 cameras.

Its too big for my wife. She like the S series and I don't like Sony due to the picture clarity is no where near Canon.

Any other suggestion or know how to set this function in Canon S series DCs?

Well, with ALL of Canon's digital camera, including the Digital ELPH S-series cameras, the date/time is stored in the image file's EXIF data. This data can be accessed by many software applications, which enables them to be able to print the date/time, regardless of the printer used. Also, if you are considering a direct-connect printer, any PictBridge compatible printer, regardless of manufacturer, will give you the option to print the date/time on the prints.

personally i think the date imprint thing on the pic ruins the photo...unless it prints it on the back of the photo.

JohnnyE,
I don't print photo's myself. I let Costco do it. Only 19 cents a copy. I need the date to be permenantly imprint to the photo as part of the picture, so they can just print it out and no editing or mangling with software required.

Still waiting for suggestion and wisdom from someone know how this can be done with S series digital camera or obsolute a no no.

I totally agree with you but the camera is for my wife and this is her only requirement beside small and stylish. I'm getting myself a G6.

if the cam can't do it, you need to do it with software on your computer :

Ikinaa,
Like I said its gonna be for my wife. I could really care less about this feature. She doesn't want to have to mess with any software at all. Just simple take the pictures and drop it off for processing and when the picuture come back it'll have the date on it already. We take at least 200 photos a month and I'm not about to do this manually as it'll become a waste of my time.

Then either find a printer that will print the date ON the photo without you having to edit the photo (this is easy as all unedited photos have lots of hidden information in them, all the printer needs to do is take the data, and super impose it.) Or, wait until the feature makes it over to the smaller cameras (if it ever does, but it likely will.)

Benefit of not sticking the date in the image itself, is those photos good enough for the wall, can be printed up nice and big and framed. When you have a data stuck in it, the photo is only good enough for the scrap book, or as a documentary photo. Never a fine art. No matter how good the sunset photo, a red MAY-15-2005 in a corner will always be a distraction.

Stopbath,
This is use for my wife mainly for documentries of our family life. So, this feature is a must for her. I have my own DC for real art.
