tbh its rather surprising how it manages to balance the weight, i had 6 lens cases attached to it as aswell and it was fine (400 2.8 with 1DM3, 70-200, 24-70, 16-35, 580EX, water bottle, batteries, cf cards, 35L and a 2nd 1DM3 above the 400/body))

Hopefully more coming soon???

Steve Beck

Yep they are discontinued according to Lowepro and they told me they do not have a replacement planned/announced yet.

Isn't there some other bag maker called kensis or something like that?

Steve, go with the Kinesis bags, they are the best in my opinion.

Another Kenisis vote. The Lowepro and Tamrac bags I've used are needlessly heavy, the Kenisis is a feather weight by comparison. When lugging 13 pounds of lens and another half dozen in body batteries t-cons etc.. you don't really want the bag weighing in at more than it needs to.

Thanks Blonde and CyberDyne, I really apprciate it.

Does anyone sell them aside form the manufacturer themselves?

i bought mine from Naturescapes which were fantastic although i don't see the 600 bag listed on their site (i am sure you can call them and order it though)

they are not new at all. what do you mean last time? are you talking about the discussion we had about the lightware cases?

michael_
26th of February 2008 (Tue), 17:11
yeah, you recommended the lightware and a few others, no drama just thought they might be new because you didnt mention them

blonde
26th of February 2008 (Tue), 19:24
sorry Michael, i don't think i recommended the lightware in that thread (they do have great bags though) but i simply identified which bag Reed uses in the video :) sorry, if it caused some confusion...

michael_
26th of February 2008 (Tue), 19:42
no confusion :) i like the lowepro 600 anyway :)

blonde

cool :) back to the kinesis, what i like about them is that they are very light while still providing enough protection. i also like the fact that they are not so stiff which means that i can shove them in my luggage when i am flying and have them with me. the only down side to the kinesis is the backpack harness which is not as comfortable as the one of the lowepro 600..

michael_
26th of February 2008 (Tue), 21:25
i agree the 600 is very stiff and the kinesis looks great, i think i have your bug snir, i have bought like 4 bags in the space of a few weeks :P

blonde

don't even get me started, my wife just finished yelling at me because my bags are all over the house (and this is after getting rid of quite a few in the past few weeks..).

UGH! Thanks for the kgear link, Blonde. I have pieced together pretty extensive longlens, pack system that will allow me to carry everything I need with ease around race tracks etc. My wife hates these forums, I think you can guess why.

no problem Steve :) if you can do me a favor and post some pics of the setup that you got, that would be great. i am thinking about adding a few lens cases and pouchs to my L521 and need to see how it comes out...

michael_

Oh yeah I forgot. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Richard and he asked what i shot mainly. He said he has a few motorsports clients and he custom made a waist harness/pouch system for a monpod to stick in for another client.

So he made one up that would hold the weight of a 600mm lens for me to try out and report back to him on how it worked out with my 600mm/monopod.

I'll let you know what it is like also if your interested.

blonde

sounds cool and this is another reason why Richard is so cool!!! when i bought my bag from them, i had a bunch of question regarding different lens pouches and how i can make them work and he tried everything while being on the phone with me :)

I am toting my Kinesis with me today on a trip. It never leaves my side.

Ok I tried for three hours tonight to get my 600mm lens to fit in my Airport Addicted, no go. It is just to tight and doesn't leave much room for other lens's or bodies.

Returning to the orignial statement, I find it hard to beleive this is a problematic fit. The Airport Addicted is 8" deep in the lower 1/3 and is 21" tall on the interior. Are you trying to pack away your lens with a 1D series body attached? This is generally not advised for durability of the lens/camera combination. But it should fit! The Kinesis and other bags like the Lens Trekker will work fine, but you will have an even tougher time toting all of your extras lenses and accessories as those are bags dedicated to a single lens compartment. You can lash on additonal smaller lens compartments, but it gets rather ungainly.
The Airport Addicted is the largest capacity, airline legal camera bag out there. for example it is much deeper than a Photo Trekker. Other lens bags may be too deep to be airline legal, but one may not necessarily run in to a carry on problem.

cool :) ...the only down side to the kinesis is the backpack harness which is not as comfortable as the one of the lowepro 600..

I've actually not tried the kenisis harness, I had purchased a Tenba harness for another bag all together ( it had the rings but no harness? ) and use it on the kenisis for when I want it to be a back pack. The Tenba harness is VERY comfortable, excllent padding and very sadjustable. This one harness fits three of my bags, none of which are made by Tenba.

..but like the other Tamrac, Lowepro stuff, it is heavy itself.
I think the harness weighs more than the empty kenisis bag!

blonde

heheh, remind me to try your harness next time we are out. the Kinesis one is ok and does the job but the lowepro has better padding. if the Tenba works better than the kinesis, i might just go for that one.

Oh..

Are you looking for a bag for air travel? for packing? if so, IMHO the Kenisis might not be the nest choice.
It will easily work as carry on as it's small enough, but it does not have much additional room, and this is the one case where it's lightweight re: padding might be a disadvantage.

When I want to Africa I packed for carry on in a seperate bag, and packed the kenisis in my checked baggage for use when I got there.

The Kenisis is IT for hiking and working out of in the field, but not the best (or most affordable) for air travel.

Tenba Harness @ B&H (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/53738-REG/Tenba_632108_5001_BPH_L_Backpack_Harness_.html)

... it's cheap too :)

Lots of bags have the rings tht will allow them to be carried backpack style.

Thanks! No not for air travel. I wanted soemthing for fotting it around raqce tracks and moderate hiking in the wilderness so to speak.

The Thinktank is a nice bag, but honestly once I got it in there I really didn't have much room fo rmy other lens's and bodies essentially making it a huge bag for one lens and a few small goodies.

I did order the l621, harness's, holsters etc with thte heavy duty pack system. We will see how it all comes together...
