I have tons of slides and negatives Id like to get digital. I have seen the duplicators that mount like a lens. Does any body have any experience with them? I dont need tip top quality as most of the images are being kept for record purposes. And none of them will be used in a professional manner. Imay end up printing a few again tohane inmy house but thats about it.

Do you think I might be able to rent one somewhere? 'Cause once Im done, Ill probably never use it again.

I have one of those slide duplicators which I bought when I was still shooting film. The problem with using them with the digital EOS cameras is that the crop sensor will cut off portions of the slide unless you have a full frame camera like the 5D. And you have to load each slide into the duplicator before you can duplicate it.

What I ended up doing when I needed to duplicate slides was buying a small light box (a 5"x7" light box) which is normally used for viewing slides. I then placed several slides on the light box and took a picture of each one with the camera mounted on a tripod. I bought a 1:1 macro lens (Sigma 50 f/2.8 EX macro) to shoot the slides with.

But now that I have a flat-bed scanner (Epson Perfection 4800) that can also scan several slides at once, that's what I use now to duplicate slides. :)

Thanks. I have a flat scanner but was trying to find a more efficient way to copy them. I may have to rent a film scanner.
