DIY: Softbox Filter Holder

This turned out to be a very simple DIY. I'm using a Photoflex Speedring and an Impact Universal Filter Holder (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/359886-REG/Impact_3312_Universal_Filter_Holder.html) which I've disassembled to make use of the frame with the clips.

Other than disassembly there were no modifications to the filter holder. I made a bracket out of aluminum, fastening it to the 3/8" threaded hole on the speedring and to the hole in the center of the bottom horizontal part of the frame. I used lockwashers and tightened the hardware very tight so there wouldn't be any movement of the components.

This now gives me the ability to use filters and gels in side a softbox or octabox.

I just did some tests. Not only does the filter holder work well in terms of design, stability and functionality, but I just did tests with my light meter mounted to a light stand, taking readings from the center, center of short edge, center of long edge and the corner, and the variances from spot to spot were exactly the same, with or without the gel in place.
