Rechargeable batteries

I just purchase energizer NiMH 2500 rechargeables with charger (for my 580EX flash). Holds up to 8 batteries takes up to 3 hours to charge. Was this a mistake? Should I have bought something else?! I do the odd function where I take up to 1000 photos.Will these do the job. The package was about $66 AUS dollars.

Nope, nothing wrong with that. There are slight advantages to other brands like Eneloop -- they are meant not to discharge over the course of a few weeks of sitting in your bag. Just make sure to top off the charge of the batteries before your assignment if they have been sitting around (this is a characteristic of all normal NiMHs).
