looking through the shots i took the other day.
these were interesting to me....still editing out the chair in these..
i think they are poor edits...im sure you can see the edges where i colored, though i did try in the second to smudge and blur the areas to make them appear natural
comments welcome.

no...he was not a pet...lol...his name was Fred....i dont know why but Fred. lol
i wish he was a pet...he was about 4 inches long. and freindly
i got home one day to find him outside on the vinyl siding at the apartment i stay at.
he was moving slowly...very slowly...so i approached with a wooden spoon in his face to see if he would spook...and he didnt budge...so i got a few pics..
i posted some a whil back, you may like (the first pic on the original post has his mouthparts open)
here is the link for you MJ

anyways, he stayed around for like a week or so. just hanging out. i didnt get a chance to get more pics, because he was positioned oddly, or something..

thanks for comment. i really like that second pose also. i have a few more shots that may be well enough to post..a darn pain cloning out the chair his leg was one though...

Thanks MJ. i was happy to see him there on the wall. he was large enough that i could get some decent shots.
typically they fly away usually when approached, from memory, and their wingspan is like 6 inches or something. thats why i approached him with that wooden spoon, i didnt want to be in its face with the camera, and have it fly off...

i bet your MPE 65 would get some wicked detail on the mouthparts, and the eyes too,...it also had some awesome wing pattern, that reminded me of the mantis wings.

.

its eyes look so shiny?

true. unlike the mantids and flys, and other bugs i am familiar with, which have multiple eye parts (cant remember the name..)
so maybe not too much detail to get..but the first post with the mouthparts open, i bet you would have some awesome detail with the MPE 65

heres another from the side, to show the eyes again. seems like they look darker from some angles. the shot looking direct face to face, the eyes look brighter, probably due to flash..

apparently, they do have a compound eye, like mantis, but the receptors are very small,
the nymphs, to me look like mantid mymphs...this site is kinda resourceful

i had fun hanging out with this one for sure...we went down to the pub for a lager...lol
but seriously..it was enjoyable, and good practice for me. easy target, and the lighting worked out well i thought. i really like the BG lighting, overall, one of my favorite times doing macro!
thanks chomish
