What do you mean you have trouble installing it on your G4? There is an Apple version of the self executing update that you download and expand on your computer and then copy the update to the root of your CF card for installation on the camera. Are you using the right update file?

Welcome to the forums!

It would help a LOT if you explained what the problem is. What steps are you following to install the firmware update and where does it go wrong? Do you get an error message? If so, what's the error message?

I guess I have to explain my problem a little more please excuse my being new to these type of things.
I have gotten to the point where the file comes up and there is a stufit file
I believe also but this doesn't open any thing. I am not sure if I drag the first file over to my CF card or am I suppose to to open the first file and extract something from that and drag it to my card. As you probably can tell I haven't a lot of computer knowledge with this new computer. I do appreciate those who have so kindly responded and hope there is a way I can overcome this problem. As for Canon I think this will effect their new 580 flash sales (As if they care.) as I'm sure I am not alone in having this problem. Again thank you everyone for the kind assit.

I'm not exactly sure of the Mac scheme for extracting files, but the file that you will eventually need to transfer to the root folder (directory) of your CF card is called " 1D200103.BIN ". That is the file that the camera will need to update its firmware.

I had a similar problem on my Mac. I reformatted the card in the camera and re copied the extracted file to th cf card and it then worked.

To those who so kindly reponded to my problem with the 1.3 firmware update I thank you.
My problem was more in understanding the terminology used of root file I found than the actual procedure it's self. Again thank you to all those who tried to assist me. :D
