Check with your insurance agent. They are the only ones that can tell you what your coverage is. I had over $5000 worth of gear stolen in Naples, Italy...and no coverage. The only salvation was the thief was an American and tried to pawn the stuff when he returned to the US...he was arrested and my gear returned about 90 days after the theft. Not everyone gets that lucky. Having records of all your serial numbers and photos of your gear also is important.

My gear is insured, including while traveling. For me it is well worth the money.

Can you afford to lose it? Check carefully the details of your home and travel insurance policies, and supplement with photo gear insurance as required. My gear's covered under my home insurance, but YMMV.
