Seems a thread I started was better off deleted than to allow someone else a chance to voice their opinion in the thread.

History: Spock84 posted a thread wish links to nude selfportraits.

Better examples of photos than some nude females too.

Someone took exception. Others took exception to the exception...
A bunch of posts got deleted and a bunch of narrow minded "Be gone" messages got posted.
Thread got locked.

I posted a thread with my support of the images since the thread got locked during my writing of the message.

One (maybe more) replies, and my thread was deleted. Deleted because someelse posted a message in the the thread...

That is a bit much I feel. So this vampire is taking his leave... G'bye, and have a good Halloween.

You can't please everyone - and that's not a comment about Stopbath, but to those who originally took exception in the other thread.

Face it, you just can't please everyone.

Sooner or later somethings will get said, someone else is going to take offense, then words get flung about, tempers flare... All that makes for a miserable place, IMHO.

So I have to thank the moderators for doing their best to make the place enjoyable for the majority. Yeah, sometimes it sucks, but you can't please everyone.

Have to agree with Scott.
With this many folks on the board there is bound to be something said that will upset someone else. Hate to see this happen, but it has and it will happen again. Please remember that we are all human, especially the mods.

The thread was locked as long as one particular individual was continuing to post to it. That is no longer likely to happen, so the thread can be unlocked. Stopbath: your thread was moved for the same reason. The first person to respond to it was the same one who was creating the problems in Spock's thread. The same stupid debate had just been moved to a new thread, and we were trying to handle it. Nothing personal, believe me.

FWIW, I sent PMs to most of the people involved explaining our actions and the fact that they were likely temporary. As of this time, not all of them have been read.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Right....

A thread was locked by Tom because one member was running roughshod wreaking havoc doing his damndest to to cause as much trouble as possible.

It was the correct and ONLY choice.

By immediately reopening the same topic that caused a thread to be locked, not only was this an invitation to the same troll to jump right back in.. it was in fact completely counter to the very difficult task that the mods were facing at that time.

PMs were sent explaining the need for the temporary action.

StopBath,. I am sorry that you feel you must leave due to Moderators doing there dmandest to make the best of a very difficult situation.

Frankly.. I have no sympathy though.

Between Tom, myself and some other very helpfull members this morning I estimate approximately 10 man hours were spent dealing with this one situation.

A period of time during which many of us were insulted, degraded, and threatened either publicly or via PM.

It is easy for you to jump in at the tale end and start the ball rolling all over agian.. and then further insult us all for the effort that was put in.

It is easy for you to stand in judgement of all others actions.

As I said, there were other members who actually helped the forum instead. Members who took action in defense of the forum and payed for it.

Honestly.. this fiasco has driven me to my breaking point.

If all you can do is continue to take public pot shots while others work there asses off to maintain some form of decency on this forum.. then good ridance.

Sorry all.. this CDS having an absolute Meltdown.

I am furious with what has transpired today... and I am even more furious that I have to take crap from someone for volunteering to spend 5 hours doing damage control...

I guess the troll wins this time.. this is exactly what he wanted.

I have full confidence on the moderator crew I have chosen and I fully support their decisions.

The forums get bigger by the day and the task of keeping noise out is sometimes very stressful. Our moderators are doing good job. Be assured that all actions done are for mutual benefit (keeping the forums in topic and avoiding flamewars etc). Sometimes innocent may be affected (e.g. when topic is locked) - I'm sorry about that but the forum software has limited features in this area so using that power is sometimes like using a tank to kill a bee. Perhaps one day I'll write my own forum software to get more usable tools :)

Compared to the amount of traffic very little is actually done to moderate forums and 99.9% of the posts are great. If you are "hit" by moderators see http://photography-on-the.net/forum/rules.php for more info.
