Apart from the foam around the batt compartment, did Canon fix the batt indicator on the BG-E2 in the BG-E2N?.
Because my old BG-E2 always gives the wrong reading (less than 1/2 full compare to full without the grip) on my 20D.
I want to get another BG-E2 for my 40D because they're a lot cheaper the BG-E2N.

That fix was supposed to have been made ages ago, before the 30D came out. If your BG-E2 AA holder doesn't have gold contacts, they you need to send it in for the recall.

Get the BG-E2, the N version is overpriced and doesnt offer enough to justify the cost.

I strongly disagree with the statement that the BG-E2N isn't a superior grip to the BG-E2. They are "supposed" to be the same, but they aren't. I used the old grip (left over from my 30D) and didn't like the fit at all, but when I switched to the new grip it felt better. I always keep a RRS "L" plate on my camera and I think that it made a difference in the way the grip felt in my hand.
