i used to never sharpen in RAW/Capture, but after reading the new Fraser/Schewe book on ACR/CS 3, they recommend it. i'm trying to get a feel for how much i should do in RAW, and how much i should do in PS. anyone have any advice? i usually just use the Manyk action in PS.

the capture sharpening in ACR should be mild. I imagine the Schewe Fraser book should have some guidelines, no? I do know they also sell a sharpening plug-in, PK Sharpener by Pixel genius, so maybe for that reason they don't give specific 'numbers' as to what settings. I found out from a friend what the Lightroom preset sharpening settings were for portraits and landscapes. I created presets in ACR for them. I don't have the presets here at work though...

IMO the sharpening in ACR 4 (or LR) is not very good for high ISO images.
I've been trying a few settings, and mostly use something along these settings for NR / Sharpening:
luminance: 0
color: 9
amount: 50
radius: 1
detail: 42
threshold: 50
Here (http://lightroom-news.com/lightroom-11-update/sharpening/) is a bit on LR sharpening.

I haven't read Jeff Schewe's update to the late Bruce Fraser's book, but have watched Jeff and Michael Reichmann's Lightroom video series, as well as their Camera to Print videos. In those, the recommendation was to do capture sharpening only in ACR and use either Photokit Sharpener or PS for creative and print sharpening. So far, that works for me.

Very strong +1 -- I just started using this, and the longer I use it, the more impressed I am.
