I love the shot of the springer spaniel. What lens did you use to capture this shot?

Well, its difficult for me to choose what I think are my best as I use this lense almost all of the time, but here is a small selection of what I think are reasonably good with this lense:

No cropping on this one:

That was my first lens and I didn't shoot with it for long before picking up the 100mm. I'm going to get another copy of it (gave my old one to a friend) because I want something light weight to take on day trips.

Hey thanks :D thats very kind of you to say so. Yes, I feel that I work well with it, and feel really comfy using it. The lighter weight suits me better when using the flash as well.
I still like the 100mm but only use that when I think I need the extra working distance.
Thanks again.

Hi there - well, I get as close as I possibly can and if the insect is particularly small, then I do crop a little bit. I rarely do large crops and if I do, I will state that I have done so. At the moment, I only use Elements v 2 and guarantee I do nothing out of the ordinary - no tubes - I dont own any. There is nothing added to the lense whatsoever.
The speckled bush cricket has no cropping whatsoever, it wasnt particularly small or large. I do seem to work well with that lense, more so than the 100mm. Im not sure I can offer any suggestions, other than get as close as the lense allows and how close you can physically get to the insect/subject and if its not appearing big enough, then just crop a little in your software.
The hoverfly laying eggs is more of a crop than I would normally do because I wanted to see what it was doing in the original photo and when I realised it was half decent zoomed in a bit, I cropped it.
Hope that helps a little.
Linda

MJ - No I dont use tubes or anything else - I dont even own any tubes - nothing used except the 60mm macro lense. I have used this lense a long time and know pretty much its capabilities.
Linda
To add a bit onto this post, the second hoverfly shot above also has NO cropping. Here are two more that have no cropping either:

I probably have a few more examples if you want to see some I can take a look in my galleries.
