Today, I was shooting a still life with a white area in it with my 20D. After only a few exposures, I saw a black, circular, fuzzy artifact in the white area. I changed lenses, tried different subjects and still got the artifact. I called Canon and was immediately diagnosed as having a display pixel defect. However the defect was over 2mm in diameter (much bigger than a pixel) and moved around with the automatic vertical view. So I was told to send the camera off to a service center!
Well, I did not want to be without my camera for 7 to 10 days. I looked up how to do a sensor cleaning. As I looked at the sensor, I saw the dust particle which was easily blown away with a puffer as suggested in the manual.
I suspect that a piece of debris from the manufacturing process was lodged in the camera behind the mirror and from the few hundred shots I have made (I've had the 20D for a month) was jarred loose.
Rather scary, but fixable. So my advice - have a puffer bulb in your camera kit to remove debris. :?
