Today, I was shooting a still life with a white area in it with my 20D. After only a few exposures, I saw a black, circular, fuzzy artifact in the white area. I changed lenses, tried different subjects and still got the artifact. I called Canon and was immediately diagnosed as having a display pixel defect. However the defect was over 2mm in diameter (much bigger than a pixel) and moved around with the automatic vertical view. So I was told to send the camera off to a service center!

Well, I did not want to be without my camera for 7 to 10 days. I looked up how to do a sensor cleaning. As I looked at the sensor, I saw the dust particle which was easily blown away with a puffer as suggested in the manual.

I suspect that a piece of debris from the manufacturing process was lodged in the camera behind the mirror and from the few hundred shots I have made (I've had the 20D for a month) was jarred loose.

Rather scary, but fixable. So my advice - have a puffer bulb in your camera kit to remove debris. :?

Good advice, professor. A good puff of air will fix 90% of people's problems.

I ordered what looked like the large Giottos Rocket from Henry's.
Well, I was surprised to recieve a shorter, more bulbous version.
It still works very nice though.

I believe there are three different sizes. Any one of them is far superior to the little squeezy things with the brush on them that most camera stores like to sell. That black rubber sure does stink, though.

So you'd better not use it on your sensor, otherwise it will get smelly too......

Oh, great. Now I have to buy deodorant for my camera.
