Last year, I spent 3 weeks in Europe carrying my heavy 35mm SLR around my neck, but high on my chest (less bouncing),
I recently bought a lighter Canon S1 and will be going for a walking tour for another 3 weeks.
What is the best way to carry my S1, for quick access, yet also provide comfort.
I dont want to carry it in a back-pack , too much effort to take spontaneous pictures.
ANY and all suggestions welcome.
Thanks

When I had my old Minolta Dimage 7i, I used the Nova 1 (http://www.lowepro.com/pages/series/nova/nova1aw.htm) (the bag in the URL is actually the All-Wheather version of it) - and liked it very much. It's small, light and very convenient to carry. The access to the equipment is very quick and the bag has a lot of room for its size - mine held the camera, the Sigma 500 ST DG Super flash, spare CF cards and batteries, cables, X-Drive, my wallet and some papers.

This is obvious, but how about on your shoulder  (less bouncing).

An Optech Pro Strap for $20 will make it a lot more comfortable around the neck.
Or get a "slinger"-type backpack, which quickly very quickly slides around to your front allowing relatively quick access. Adorama makes the Slinger, and Tamrac has the Velocity series.

I prefer a shoulder strap, but while traveling through crowds , I am concerned that the camera could be pulled easily or
slip off.
With some of the straps that were shown, http://www.optechusa.com/category/second/?CATEGORY_ID=4
I was unable to figure if they are meant for the neck and end up on the chest, or
if they go around the neck and are sort of "under the arm on the side.
I believe that a strap around the neck, but the camera ends up on the side is good so long as it can be kept there without sliding down to the middle.
Any other product suggestions,
if this kind of strap was part of the Optech line, I couldnt quite visualize it with the few pictures on the sites.

If you don't care about your appearance, belt/fanny pack worn in front to keep it where you're more likely to see anything happening.
OpTech makes a chest strap that'll slide over the front of the camera to keep it from bouncing too much when hung around your neck.

I recently went to Newyork with my newly aquired 10D, I was acutely aware of it hanging off my neck and worried about it getting damaged or attracting the wrong attention.
I bought a Freezer bag four about $4. I then adjusted the 10D straps to thier max length put the camera in the cool bag and hung this around my neck just to the side of my waist. The padded cool bag protected the camera, it was easily accesible via a single zip and it looked to the avarage passerby like all I was carrying was a cool bag with some sandwiches in it.
I hope this helps you.
Steve.
ps this is exactly the type of bag I bought, but 3 dollars more expensive. What do you think?
