I've been asked to quote for our local school's annual portraits. They would like three packages for parents to choose from and as I don't have kids in school, I don't really know what to include. They were not happy with the last packages but have been unclear on what products they really want so I thought I'd ask for input from those of you who do this and/or those of you who have kids - what do YOU want?

I'm thinking along these lines:

Package One:
1 8x10 of the class photo
1 8x10 of the individual child
2 4x6 OR 4 wallets of the individual child
This is what I offered for the local day care and it was the most popular (about 70%).

Package Two:
1 8x10 of the class photo
1 8x10 of the individual child
2 5x7 of the individual child
4 4x6 or 8 wallets of the individual child
Again, I recently offered this at the local day care and about 35% took this option.

Package Three:
1 8x10 of the class photo
2 8x10 of the individual child
4 5x7 of the individual child
6 4x6 or 12 wallets of the individual child

Wallets are not wildly popular here. Some parents haven't even known what they are.

I did also offer two keychains (because the day care requested that I offer them) instead of the 5x7s in package 2...a couple of parents took that but most seemed to want prints instead. Are these or other "trinkets" popular in school packages?

Am I on the right track?

hi, i have a little one in school and i would go with package 3. only because my daughter's father and i do not live together and that would give us each an 8x10. the next issue for me would be price. i think your packages are good though. sometimes you get these huge packages and never give half the pictures out!

Greetings kja,

I really like your packages. Personally, I would go for Package 2. As Aaagogo had asked, would you mind sharing your price for these packages? I understand if you can't.

Peace,
Yanis :D

You don't say what grade you will be working with. I think the packages are good for the lower grades but if your shooting a HS, I would either remove, or downsize the class photo to a 5x7. In my area, there is not much call for class photos at the HS level, but there is for sport team photos.

To suggest pricing is a very difficult thing to do. My prices may be considered either very low, or high in different parts of the country. The best thing to do is to find out what others are charging in your area and although you want to be competitive, you should stay in the range that the others charge.

Also, does the school expect/request/pretend-not-to-but-really-want a % of sales?

16-1.5x2.5 (also called mini wallets)

B; $36
2-8x10
2-5x7
4-3x5
4-2x3
8-1.5x2.5

When I opened envlopes, I think the most popular was C.

The class pictures was an 8x10 but the actual picture was 5x7 then the school info and a border made it an 8x10 and we give them to all students free of charge.
