After testing my new 20D, I thought I had a battery eating monster but now I'm thinking it has to do with the new 20D grip. Is this possible? Sometimes the battery status will be down to 1/4 power with two almost fresh batteries and I will take them out of the grip, put them back in and to my surprise, the camera reads full power again. The camera doesn't seem to eat batteries with the grip off and a single battery installed. What do you guys think?

Sounds like it's time to get a grip replacement.

THere are similar discussions in another forum regarding the same problem:

Hmmm, interesting. I'm putting off buying the grip for a while.

I also have this problem with my 20D grip - it is somewhat annoying...

I'm seeing it too. I only have one 511A, which I'd been using for a while before I put the grip on. After I'd been using it for about an hour and 75-100 photos (no flash), batttery indicator went low. I popped in a third-party 511 (1100mAH) in addition, and it stayed low. Swapped the 511A for a second (1100mAH) 511 and it remained there, even though both the 511s were nominally fresh (unused since charging).
Anyone tried the grip with AAs? 80 shots on alkalines doesn't sound too promising, but . . .

I'm wondering, is the grip actually eating up the battery or is the LCD display just incorrect? I'm curious to know if the camera will still fire off long after the battery status shows up as "empty".

Sounds like another tweak in a new firmware will be needed. So far I have not seen that issue, but I have not given our new 20D much use as of yet.
