View Full Version : 1-year anniversary

So today is my 1-year anniversary of owning a camera. Yep, the 10D arrived a mere 12 months ago. 3 weeks from today will be my 1-year anniversary on this forum, too. And I just turned 40 about 3 weeks ago.
So what have I learned after 14,000 frames and 3,700 posts...?
The world is amazing. Even my little corner of it is just so full of things I've never seen before. OK, maybe I saw them, but never really saw them, you know?
Fresh air is also amazing. 17+ years of being a computer geek and *now* I find this stuff called "fresh air." It's good stuff. Try it sometime.
Birds are cool. (OK, so maybe that's an understatement for me...)
My wife is a good one. She let me spend a ridiculous amount of cash in the last year, lets me go almost every weekend and the occasional trip to Montreal, and rarely complains. Not too shabby.
This forum is pretty darn cool indeed.
I've learned that it may take me another few years to take a good landscape shot. :D
L is very expensive, but worth it.
L-coholism is *extremely* expensive, and I'm not so sure it's worth it.
L doesn't make you a better photographer, but it's cool to pretend.
I've met a lot of great friends in the last year.
A single good photo can make your day, but a day full of crappy ones still sucks.
Well I'm sure there's more, but I'm stuck in work on a Saturday and the coffee hasn't kicked in yet...
Anyway, Happy Anniversary To Me, and thanks for being there along the way.

Scott:
That's quite a lot to have accomplished in just a year. Congratulations on your good works, turning 40, and being able to stay married through it all.
You failed to mention that you're also among the most prolific of contributors to the forum...almost 3700 posts in your time here. That's a pace that will eventually put you ahead of everyone but CDS (Lightining Fingers) and Marie.
I know you've made some good friends through the forum, too. If your experience is anything like my own, that's a large part of what keeps you coming here on a daily basis.
Congratulations. Thank you. Keep it up.

Hey! Congrats Scottes !!!!
It was a pleasure to meet you, you are such a great guy.
Just wish I can take bird photos quarter as good as yours, these creatures are driving me nuts  (hmmm, maybe I should try nuts to lure them).
In any case, big congrats to you and your accomplishments. Best wishes.

Congratulations, Scott! :) I can't believe you've been around here for "only" a year. Your contributions to these forums are part of what makes this site so great. It feels like you've been around for much much longer.
Well, here's to the next year... and the year after that... and...

Happy anniversary
I'm about to reach mine (into the digital world) and if there is one thing i've learned, digital photos take up lots of space too!.
I had to uninstall a bunch of stuff today, i finally ran out of space on my PC.
20gigs of music 40gigs of songs, endless hours of games.
I'll be ordering another H/D tonight perhaps :?

Well, thanks everyone, and again: thanks for being there during the year. This place has certainly helped make it an enjoyable year.
Alas, because of work, I did not get to take a picture today. And I am officially turning the 10D over to my wife - I hope she has a tenth as much fun with it as I did.
I'll be hitting the sack shortly, hopefully to get up at 3:30, out the door by 5:00, and somewhere in the mountains by sunrise. This will probably be my last day to shoot autumn colors this year, so be prepared for some more of my attempts at landscape photos.
Next year I'm taking October off.
I wish...

Years ago my wife used to say that I was 36 going on 6.
Now she says I'm 40 going on 6.
Works for me.

Scott:
It doesn't sound like you're making a lot of progress. It sounds vaguely familiar, though. Are our wives related?

Though aging is progress it's eventually so detrimental that I'd rather regress.
Staying even is even better.
