I posted some selective color experiments of mine earlier and they drew negative reviews across the board. I've gone out to take some more photos and have come back with this one which I think at least improves on my previous submissions in this category. C&C are, as always welcomed.

Not for me, your full lcolored version of these roses is the best bar none.

I think it's very nice. Seems that the majority does not like selective coloring. I happen to dig it and you did a nice job on this one. I would like to see more of these and more people doing this. Awesome!

I couldn't agree more. As much as I like getting a nice comment, the criticism I receive encourages me to be more creative and try new things.

Thanks MisterM! I love doing these. I have to admit though that the majority don't turn out particularly well on my end. You can see others I have don't on my DeviantArt account at http://pierre81385.deviantart.com.

I think it looks good because it is subdued in color... A lot I see have the color cranked up so much that it looks out of place.
Can someone give me an idea of how this is done??
I've got some wedding pics that the Bride want's some selective color and I have no idea how to do this unless you just manually select what you want to stay color and then change the rest (that sounds like work to me! :) )

I am not a great fan of selective colouring but that is a personal taste thing. That being said this is quite dramatic and dark, the non coloured flowers look like they have been burned. It is an interesting image.

I darkened the image, reduced the color saturation, and increased the contrast using Canon's DPP RAW editor to achieve the color I wanted. I used GIMP, a free image editing program to do the selective color.

This is a good choice, the color you've picked plays nicely against the gray/black of the rest. What I don't care for is the crop, I think the colored roses would work better if they didn't run off the page. Selective coloring is one of those things first year art students can make you crazy with.....
