This is just a shot I took recently while in the islands. It was shot with a 70-200
and as you can see he was way out. Not the best shot but never the less it was
a cool one.
Thanks in advance

I like it, the colours are good and the darkeness of the man stands out well.
One thing though, that's kitesurfing not surfing... :p

I knew that, I must have been brain dead when I wrote that. Thanks

Nice shot. Yes, he is way out there. The perspective looks great that way, with no land in sight.

Honestly, it doesnt do much for me.
The sea doesnt separate itself much from the sky and the horizon is tilted. Generally speaking, I loathe tilted horizons and have only seen them pulled off successfully (IMHO) in tight actions shots like the ones above.
Its a nice perspective though and I think if you could go back and try some more, its something you could develop into a really nice picture.

fotojoem - I like it, it makes me wonder where he's going ... and if he'll get there.
Where on Maui was that shot?

For some reason, I knew that question would come up! I will pull out a book called
Maui revealed and give you the exact location. The book is priceless. It gives you
all of the insider, if you will, information on the island. This particular area is where
all of the kite surfing and wind surfing takes place and that is one of several pictures
I took of the singles who were pushing the envelope. In fact I told my wife some of
these guy's were at least a mile off shore. Pretty amazing really....I will get back tomorrow with the location.
Thanks for the comments

Roy, how do you do the effect on 1st shot? Very nice captures on both pics.
fotojoem, I agree with Adam on the horizon. You should fix that tilt.
Also, I would suggest to crop it and boost the levels a little bit.
Not much I can do with this small file, but here is a suggestion

The fist shot with the zoom "effect" was done in photoshop using radial bur, zoom setting. Then I carefully used the history brush to paint back the surfer...about 10 minites work

Nice shots there Roy.
Would have been nice to see facial expression on first image though.
Otherwise excellent

Windward side is the best kite surfing - on Oahu you're looking at Kailua-Bellows-Waimanalo - I don't know Maui, but look for the same exposure - Kahului? out toward Hana?. I have seen guys do amazing speed runs and huge air on turn arounds when the trades are blowing.
