I completely stepped out of my element today with this shoot. I shot the interior of a karaoke bar for a brochure that a hotel here in Toronto is making. Unusual client, unusual subject matter for me - it was very different from my usual landscapes, glamour and wildlife! Client likes the photos a lot, but I can't quite wrap my head around why, as I'm not a massive fan of them; I just don't think I'm cut out for appreciating this kind of photography yet.
But at the end of the day I got paid and got free beer, so it's all good .

3. I insisted on making this photograph right at the end of the shoot to keep me sane.

i really like the 2nd shot and good use of a small aperture to get the starry effect on the lights.

Good (small) shots, but these look like real estate pics to me. When you posted the original thread, I'd assumed that people would be there when you shot this. The ever present "assume" mistake! :D
I'd think that, for a karaoke bar & especially for a ad brochure, it would help to have a few couples there to project "fun & friendly", even if you only showed a couples backs or profile. You wouldn't object to a bear in your landscape shots, would you?
So... got any with people in them?

I enjoy the first shot a great deal. You handled the various light sources well.
A question on number 2. I see a christmas tree and icicle lights. Unless the brochure will speak directly to "holiday events" or appropriate themes, they seem a bit out of place. Were they supposed to be there?

Nope! They specifically picked a day when the bar would be empty because this is the kind of shot they wanted for the brochure - one with no people in it! I think it fits the final look of the brochure or something, I dunno.

Yeah they were left over from Christmas, and I don't see them taking them down anytime soon. In any case we couldn't have moved them, unfortunately.

Interesting marketing concept on their part. Well, as long as the check clears, right!:)

Yeah, I don't really care what the final brochure looks like :p. I tried to make the most of what I had to work with that day.

I just noticed this, Frank. Sorry about the size, but since this is commercial work, I have to hold off posting larger stuff for now.
And considering that I normally sit in one spot for about 3 hours when I shoot a landscape, I'd be darn worried if there were a bear in my frame!
