580 - 430 flash setup

Hi All

I have a 580EX and bought a 430 to use as a slave off the 580.

I was sorting out the setup last night and couldn't get the master (580) to fire the 430 without also firing.

I read the manual and did as instructed but could not get just the 430 firing.

Has anyone else had a simular problem??

Mike,

The master will always fire a pre-flash to gather information on how much power the slave needs to deliver. So even though you see a flash from the master when it is set to not fire, does not mean it is firing to add to the exposure.
