Hello All,
Yesterday I bought my first DSLR, an EOS 400D. I figured it would be wise to start at the beginner level and work up from there.
Of course I have been playing around with point and shoot digital cameras for sometime but wanted to make the stepup and go back to my roots.
When I was a young man (seems like an age ago now) I used to dabble with SLR photography and really enjoyed but then I guess work and life got in the way. My father is quite the photographer and has always held Canon in very high regard so there was only one choice.
It looks like I am going to have to start learning all over to get the most out of my photography again but I am looking forward to enjoying it. I hope to speak to you all more in the future.
Be lucky :D

Regards
Graeme

I hope your pockets are deep, because you just cut a hole in the bottom of it. :D

Enjoy. It's a fun but initially expensive hobby!

welcome Graeme, sounds like you got a keen love of photography and so you'll know what counts is getting the basics right like composition, exposure and developing an eye for stuff that is worth shooting. If you got the 400D with a kit lens then just get a 50mm 1.8 for now and enjoy yourself. That lens is super cheap but gives good results in low light. If you gotr the body only then get a Tamron 17-50mm 2.8. Nice fast, cheapish lens that will give great results. Buying expensive gear offers somewhat dimishing returns in my experience. When your current gear serems to be limiting you then think about spending more if you are really enjoying your hobby.
