I just purchased a Mac Pro and a Dell 2408 Monitor, out of the box the Dell seemed very blue to me and I used the Apple Calibration but then lost a lot of detail. I nosed around the web and found someone who said to use custom RGB on the monitor and set all three to 75 then do a calibration. BINGO, everything looks superb except some brighter reds look a cartoonish neon pink.
I have an Xrite i1 Display 2 on the way that will hopefully clear everything up but I wondered if anyone has any advice to get closer on the reds while I'm waiting.

How are you getting along with your calibrations? I have a 2408 arriving next week and need to get a calibration kit, wanted to know if you like yours? Thanks for the help.

OK, reporting back after using the Xrite eye-one display2 calibration system.
First I will confirm this is a great way to make the monitor look better. The monitor looks much less saturated on the reds. I played with some photos in Photoshop and then printed them to see how they look. I can say they are much closer now to what prints out on my Canon printer. I still believe there is a bit more saturation then someone with a critical eye would like and I am on the fence about the monitor being acceptable for me. I am going to ask Dell if they would be willing to exchange the monitor when they do a revision (firmware) upgrade and if they agree then I will keep it.
