I saw a very similar shot in a gallery and with the location near my house went and shot. What do you think?

Marvelous shot. Maybe clone out the item on the horizon to the far right.

Landscapes are often best when rendered in the landscape orientation. This one is no exception. The one you saw in the gallery was intended to cover a bigger piece of wall.

Totally agree with Robert.....now the wall is the main attraction.

I, too, prefer the portrait version. I am a firm believer in breaking the rules when good reason exists to do so. Your is a perfect example of a landscape that does favor portrait orientation. I would, however, like I mentioned above, remove the white object at the waterline close to the right edge. I will demonstrate. Not that much of a difference, but the white object does bother eye movement through the image. Now, if you are a purest, this may bother you that an image could be changed like this; but, I figure that you have the tools to do it so why not.

As strange as it may seem, the white object (building?) on the far shore was distracting, and it's removal helps immensely. As far as portrait vs landscape?... either one works for me. I could see a large portrait version hanging on a wall in the right space.

Well, three for landscape and three against. Just goes to show ya that there is no "correct" way, just what you like.

You might try different proportions, both ways.

This landscape/portrait thing is very subjective, and everyone certainly has their own opinion and are entitled to it. Above all, it should be recognized that there is no right or wrong for most questions regarding fine art. It sometimes takes the passing of a century but the accepted standards do change.

This is a very nice image. Looks great to me in either orientation. I think wall space would dictate choice.

Thats exactly what I though after going back to the two crops....I had to revisit this photo.and no realize that I do like the portrait crop better....it seems to have more drama to me?
