hi, I just bought a Canon S60, mainly to do texture photography for digital art etc
I'm noticing the pictures I take get a fishbowl effect...that is, square objects don't turn out square in the pictures, the edges are warped
is there a manual adjustment I can do to change this?
I need to be able to take photos that don't do this
thx!!
ps. photography is new to me, apologies if this is a newb question...

well, I did some reading & searching on the forum, and found this article w/the S60:

another problem I was having is in the 1st pic, parallel lines becoming non-parallel because of the wide angle lense
I guess you just need to keep the lense perpendicular to the object?

You can do this with Photoshop Elements.
Use the Image/Transform feature (perspective or skew). You need to leave a good margin round the subject when you take the shot to play around with.

you need to zoom in. there is mild barrel distortion at full wide angle, virtually none at telephoto. this is just a part of owning a very compact camera.

Pincushion and Barrel Distortion can be a normal problem with what you are describing. Consult your manual or contact canon to find out when this distortion can be normal with this lens

If you're experiencing normal wide-angle distortion then try PTLens. I just checked my install and it's got presets for the S60. Since distortion varies by focal length, PTLens will read the EXIF header in the original JPEG and adjust accordingly. If you edit the image and lose the EXIF data you'll need to manually enter the focal length.
I use PTLens for correction fisheye images. Works great.
