best software

Hi i was wondering what u all think is the best software?...Im a novice..but i have photoshop cs.. Unlead Photoimpact 10... Paintshop Pro9..... and microsoft digital image suite pro 10...Oh and Corel Painter IX ...But i like the creativity side of things clipart??..2.. makes it all more fun???? But cant decide what i like best outa all 4...so i got all 4....lol..madness prob all do the same thing? ... what r ur opinions?....thanks?..snaphappy

Every program has its supporters, but you will find (and I suspect you already know) that most serious photographers use Photoshop. It is the gold standard of image editing software. Not surprisingly, it's the most complex and expensive of the programs avaialble. Since you already own it, though, cost doesn't appear to be a consideration.

One consideration, especially if you're interested in the creative aspect of image editing, is the amount of third-party support available for Photoshop (i.e. plugins, etc.). Also, there are many more book titles available that deal with Photoshop than all the others combined.

thanks belmondo?... im only just learning..thought it would be a good hobby!!..Photoshop confuses me bigtime?..... i did see the plugins? and added a few from the web?.such as virtual photography etc.. but when i click on them nothing seems to happen? duH!! btw i have lotza links for plugs ins if u want them.... regards snaphappy...

Personally I use Paint Shop Pro, but its a matter of personal taste to some extent.

If you find Photoshop confusing you might want to start on a more 'beginner oriented' program.

Adobe make - Photoshop Elements, which is like Photoshop but is less complex and helps beginners more.

Similarly Jasc make Paint Shop Studio, which is a simplified version of Paint Shop Pro.

And there are a number of other similar products. They all handle the basic functions in an uncomplicated fashion and introduce the basic concepts. Once you have mastered a simpler program it will probably be easier to move on to something more advanced.

Photoshop Elements is a good starting point. Then there's GIMP.org for a free program that includes all of the PS features that you'll need. It has great .doc & a help forum, too.

Photoshop is a terrific tool. however, to get started with it is not that easy.

I'd recommend you to look into your manual :wink: or buy a good book on the issue.
It is definitely worth the money.

One of the easiest ways to get up to speed (sort of) with Photoshop is the 'Classroom in a Book' series published by Adobe. It won't teach you everything, but you will learn enough about the fundamentals that the software will be useful. After you really learn it, it will become invaluable.

The Adobe books are available in most large books stores like Barnes & Noble, Staples, etc..

I read only one Photoshop book -- The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby. It is sufficient for me as I don't do much "creative" effect on my photos.

I don't know the advantages of other software. But there are a lot of plugins / actions developed for Photoshop. I think that it is a very big advantage to me.
